The briefcase is proving to be more of a burden than a gift for Sheamus.
With everyone's attention currently occupied by Seth Rollins' injury and the subsequent WWE Title tournament, there remains one little question lurking at the back of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship scene: just what the hell are they going to do with Sheamus? The Irishman won the Money In The Bank briefcase back in June, a booking decision likely forced by the Roman Reigns fan backlash. Now WWE have painted themselves into a corner, one where the best possible solution is to get the briefcase out of Sheamus' possession, and into the hands of a contender with far more upside and momentum. Short of teasing a few cash-ins, the Celtic Warrior hasn't really done anything since earning his guaranteed title shot. If he wasn't ready for the WWE Title back in the summer, he's even less ready for it now. His last appearance on a main PPV card was three months ago, which should give you an idea of his standing in the company at present. It sounds strange, but allowing Sheamus to cash-in and win the title would be the kiss of death, for both WWE and the man himself. The last four WWE champions have been Seth Rollins, Brock Lesnar, John Cena and Daniel Bryan. Quite simply, Sheamus would be regarded a huge step down by the entire fanbase. WWE need to get the briefcase off the Celtic Warrior ASAP, and hotshot it onto a more over superstar (preferably while keeping the Irishman as strong as possible).
