10 Brodie Lee Matches To Rewatch And Relive

7. Brodie Lee Vs. Claudio Castagnoli (CHIKARA Style And Substance 2008)

Brodie Lee Cody
CHIKARA

The first steel cage match in CHIKARA history, the vaulted nature of this classic was proof if proof were needed that the feud between Brodie Lee and Claudio Castagnoli was unlike anything the promotion had ever encountered before, or since for that matter. Fans were used to ants, masked superstars, friends in similar tights and obnoxious wrestlers with even more obnoxious back tattoos. This level of physicality was something else entirely.

The feud between the two lasted all summer, with the future Cesaro standing up for the smaller wrestlers of the locker room, many of whom had been bullied by Brodie Lee throughout the year. Lee? He was just looking to throw his weight around, to show the vanilla midgets that this was his yard. 'Big Rig' was in town and 'Big Rig' was here to stay.

What followed was one of the best main events in CHIKARA history, a hugely physical battle that was eventually won by Castagnoli following a monster European Uppercut from the top of the cage. Brodie had the match won but was thwarted by Larry Sweeny, himself stopping Buck Hawke from interfering. Forget the kerfuffle at the end, this match was a tremendous main event that was unlike anything CHIKARA had seen.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
