3. Ryback Beats Down Mr Benny Carter
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VEfAeXKkU8 The Match: WWE loves to get older fans nostalgic and they went an interesting route with that attitude in building Ryback up with a good, old-fashioned squash match. (as Tony Atlas interestingly exclaims to start the video) Ryback began his gimmick with absolutely obliterating nameless, local jobbers who looked like they were pulled straight from 1991 episodes of Wrestling Challenge. This match consisted of a long entrance and build-up followed by one clothesline and the finisher. It was a retro idea that actually seemed kind of fresh in the current wrestling environment where established superstars have to play the role of jobbers. Most Brutal Moment: Not a lot to choose from here but the clothesline at 1:27 fits the bill. No selling required for Mr. Benny Camer whose head bounces off the mat like a basketball from the sheer force of this move to his dome. Final Thought: WWE succeeded in creating some good buzz for Ryback with this tactic even though they modeled him a little too closely after iconic WCW Champion, Bill Goldberg. Ryback would destroy jobbers for a few months before pushed to the top of the card prematurely and finally firmly settling in the mid-card where h e remains today.
