10 Burning Questions For WWE Raw (Sept 19)
Which champions will clash before Sunday's PPV?
Timing is everything in life, whether you’re talking about something as simple as when you leave your house for work, or when you ask someone out on a date, or when a TV show decides to air a major angle. Timing can make someone seem less important than they are by comparison or circumstance, or vice-versa.
In the case of Kevin Owens, he has become WWE Universal Champion right at the point that Raw begins going head-to-head with Monday Night Football, a losing prospect right out of the gate, coupled with the fact that ratings already are down, and saddled with a split roster that has megastars John Cena and Randy Orton on SmackDown. In this case, timing sucks.
That isn’t meant to denigrate KO. He’s awesome and deserves this run as champ to see what he can do. The fear here is that poor ratings will be directly attributed to him when there’s little he can do by himself with all these factors working against him, unless the writers are able to produce some compelling television on Monday nights. Until then, diehard fans will have to strap in and enjoy the Kevin Owens Show and hope others tune in as well.
Raw is steamrolling toward its first brand-exclusive PPV, Clash of Champions. This being the go-home show, there will likely be plenty of angles that need to be tied up Monday night.
Let’s see what those big questions are…
10. What Will Cruiserweights Bring To The Table?
Last week saw the crowning of a new WWE Cruiserweight
Champion in TJ Perkins, as the 32-man Cruiserweight Classic came to a close.
The 10-week special produced some incredible matches and opened fans’ eyes to
new stars who could make an impact in WWE.
The tournament also led to several of these stars getting signed to be part of a new cruiserweight division on Raw, a division that will kickoff on Monday. Fans have to be curious to see what the cruiserweights will bring to Raw, and how they will interact with the rest of the roster – if they will at all.
In WCW, the cruiserweights started out completely separate from the heavyweights, but it wasn’t long before we’d see The Giant (WWE’s Big Show) squashing three cruiserweights in handicap matches. Granted, that’s a worst-case scenario, but don’t think that isn’t in the back of fans’ minds here. Or in WWE, the division died a painful death with Hornswoggle as the last champion.
For now, let’s hope the new wrestlers get a chance to win fans over with their talent and go from there.
