Trevor Murdoch is another 2007 guy who worked a cartoonish gimmick under the proviso that WWE simply needed larger-than-life characters to once more become a powerhouse.

Despite recent reports, WWE is still hoarding any talent of any age in a quest to tighten the monopoly threatened by All Elite Wrestling. There are generations of talent decaying in Orlando, when all they need is a Dustin Rhodes crash course and a four-match winning run on Dark to get good. Working for a competitor automatically qualifies this 40 year-old, 23-year veteran to report to the Performance Center for basic training, and if that scans as a joke, it really isn't. LA Knight is 38.

But Murdoch, an old WWE hand, has likely earned the all-important "trust" of Vince McMahon and would debut directly on the main roster.

You see, he needs to trust his talents. This process takes years - more than long enough for those talents to be normalised - but at least that way, Vince can make damn sure pal that the loose cannons who are infamously terrified of even approaching his door won't cut a dreaded unscripted promo that might get them over or something.
