Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels are two of the most notorious backstage politicians in the history of WWE, so it comes as no surprise that the two butted heads on how the feud between them in 2005 should go. The original deal between them was for a trilogy, where each man would win one of the first two matches to set up the third, the purpose to establish that both men are equally skilled legends.

Michaels agreed to put over Hogan in the first match, since he'd be beating him in the second.

However Hogan said (and whether you believe him is up to you) that his body was struggling and he couldn't handle more than one match, so he would beat Michaels and never put him over at a later date. In addition, Hogan insisted that Michaels turn heel to strengthen the feud, instead of the original plan of them to both be faces, which Michaels was not pleased by, and took out his frustrations during promos in the build up. During the main event of SummerSlam 2005, the all time dream match between two of the most infamous icons in professional wrestling history was tinged with mutual disdain, and then everything went mad.

While Hogan did his usual formula, Michaels went completely over the top and sold everything with rag-doll physics, bouncing up and down from simple kicks in the corner, contorting his body and throwing himself everywhere to show his disregard for the tainted contest. He ensured that Hogan's win would be talked about less than his performance.

While this could have easily come across as just disrespectful to the business, the overwhelming dissonance between the two men's performances and Michaels' beautiful commitment to being a massive prick makes for one of the most entertaining wrecks in WWE history.
