10 Car Crash Wrestling Matches That You Absolutely Adore
7. The Shield & Kurt Angle Vs. The Miz, Braun Strowman, Kane & The Bar - TLC 2017
This will come as a shock to no one who was there or who just looks at the title, but this three on five handicap match involving Kurt Angle being Roman Reigns' replacement in The Shield was not the original plan for the TLC main event.
Kurt Angle's dramatic return to in-ring competition in WWE, after 11 years, was turning up in Shield gear to fight The Miz's big boy squad. WWE did their best to make TLC 2017 as appealing as possible when a sudden outbreak in the locker room meant that Roman Reigns and Bray Wyatt were both pulled from the show, and Kurt Angle was probably the biggest name they could have gotten to work the main event instead of Roman.
However, it's still the weirdest thing that could have happened, especially considering the structure of the match involved Kurt Angle doing the Shield triple powerbomb, Kane and Braun Strowman taking five minutes to start randomly fighting despite being on the same team, and the heels turning Braun face by attempting to murder him with a garbage truck while the babyfaces took naps on the floor? What?
It is the closest that WWE have gotten to a classic Attitude Era multi-man brawl this decade and it is glorious, a transformation from the planned Shield reunion into a testament to wrestling's innate ridiculousness. Unlimited overbooked stupidity and three years later, seeing Angle in the Shield vest smiling next to Rollins and Ambrose will always bring back glorious memories.
