10 Cheesiest Music Videos In Wrestling History
2. The Entire AWA, "WrestleRock Rumble" (AWA, 1986)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1CRatikdWgLegendarily, the WrestleRock Rumble is one of the very worst attempts at promoting a show of all time. AWA promoter Verne Gagne had long resisted the winds of change that were transforming wrestling from a sober pseudo-sport into a pop culture spectacle; infamously, he showed Hulk Hogan the door in favor of keeping the title on aging perennial champion Nick Bockwinkel. By 1986, however, it was undeniable that WWE-style sports entertainment was the way of the future, and Gagne went from zero to sixty by writing and starring in an AWA-THEMED SUPERBOWL SHUFFLE PARODY RAP VIDEO. Baby steps, Verne.
The WrestleRock Rumble featured the biggest stars of mid-80's Minneapolis reciting rhyming couplets, apparently at gunpoint. Lowlights include Larry Zbyzsko destroying fruit with nunchucks, Jerry Blackwell clumsily crashing through planks of wood, and the lyrical stylings of RAGIN' GREG GAGNE. Perhaps the only bright spot is Nick Bockwinkel, whose lily-white quinquagenarian ass somehow understands rudimentary hip-hop flow and blows everyone else out of the water.
