10 CM Punk WWE Matches We'll Never Get To See

2. Shawn Michaels

Who are we more likely to see wrestle a competitive match again? On the one hand, CM Punk left WWE in the most acrimonious of manners, burning his bridges one by one and refusing to have anything to do with his former employers outside of court rooms.

On the other hand, Shawn Michaels retired from in-ring competition at WrestleMania XXVI and has done better than most at staying retired. Michaels went out in perfect circumstances, and an in-ring return would sully that legacy.

Still, the old adage goes that if the right money is on the right table at the right time, the right things happen. Michaels and Punk did come up against each other occasionally in tag team competition, but a big singles program between the two never happened. It was hinted at, but the WWE Universe was ultimately deprived of it.

It would be worth it for the promos alone. The first half of HBK’s career wasn’t short of substance-fuelled controversy, and whilst the 'Showstopper' moved away from such excess, the 'Straight-Edge Superstar' would be certain to re-open old wounds. This, added to a match between two of the best of all time, makes for a dream match and a half.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
