10 Compelling Contenders For John Cena's US Title Open Challenges

9. Jimmy Uso

We haven’t seen Jimmy Uso on WWE TV since Wrestlemania, where he represented The Usos tag team by himself after Jey Uso was taken out of action by an injured shoulder. Jey’s shoulder injury is legitimate and it’s unclear at this time how long it will keep him out of action. The question is, why should Jey’s injury keep his brother off TV? Yes they’re a team, but this unfortunate injury sidelining Jey Uso might be a chance to see how Jimmy would fair as a singles competitor for a little while.

If next week, Jimmy Uso were to accept John Cena’s open challenge, and come close to knocking off The Champ, it would be a hell of a way to break into singles competition. Jimmy is a very good worker and it’s hard to imagine the match being anything but good and afterward Jimmy can start a feud with Wade Barrett, or Luke Harper, or any number of mid card heels as a way to test run what Jimmy Uso would look like as a singles competitor. It would all have been kickstarted by having Jimmy answer Cena’s United States Championship Open Challenge.

Worst case scenario, it doesn’t quite work and you reunite him with his brother as soon as Jey is healthy, an arrangement we all know works well and very well may be missing by that point. Best case scenario, Jimmy takes off as a singles talent and gets to show some personality outside of The Usos tag team, leaving the possibility of a built in narrative of competitive and brotherly jealousy once his Jey is able to return. Regardless the outcome it’s worth a shot, and would make for a great match and great storytelling.
