What the Gimmick Was: A friendly pimp. Why its Confusing: The Godfather act wasnt the first time that Charles Wright had a confusing gimmick in his wrestling career. A few years earlier he was the evil voodoo priest Papa Shango. Somehow he could make his opponents vomit at will, and even made The Ultimate Warrior bleed green blood. Thats some talent! How could he ever possibly lose with those skills? While you can at least rally against a guy using dark magic, its hard to understand what the WWF was going for when they pushed a babyface pimp. Pimps, by their very nature, usually arent regarded very highly in society. After all, they offer the sexual services of women to men who have enough money. While its confusing as to why fans should want to cheer a pimp, its even more confusing why he was never arrested. The Godfather openly admitted he was a pimp and even offered his hoes to his opponents on national TV. Now thats just not right. What happened to the spirit of competition? By the time Godfather left WWE, he ran a legitimate escort service on SmackDown, but its a wonder how the man still isnt in prison to this day.
As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at."
Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week.
