10 Controversial WWE Moments That Pissed Off The Church
8. Billy & Chuck Attempt To Get Married On Smackdown In 2002
Speaking of a wedding that was erroneously disrupted... On Smackdown in 2002, Billy Gunn and Chuck Palumbo formed a tag team that had everyone talking because of the homosexual gimmick. Both men were incredible in-ring performers, and like flamboyant tag teams in the past, they relied on their affection towards each other to get over with the WWE Universe. In September of 2002, Chuck and Billy became engaged to have a wedding ceremony for a "life partnership." This segment was extremely memorable and fun. However, the entire deal pissed off a lot of people including The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and there is no doubt that it grinded the gears of the church. In the end it turned out that Billy and Chuck weren't really a couple and it was all just a publicity stunt. Both men however found it tough to shake off the gimmick and were both gone for the company not too long afterwards.
