10 Controversial WWE Releases
1. Dawn Marie, 2005
Dawn Marie’s release was another that came during that 2005 mass summer exodus, and one that’s difficult to argue against being one of the most controversial in company history.
Marie was released on 6 July 2005, before later giving birth to her son, Matthew, in December of the very same year. A quick run through the sums indicates that this meant WWE had gotten rid of Marie whilst she was pregnant with her first child, which is a PR nightmare at best and a breach of employment law at worst.
The icing on the cake was that WWE had allegedly promised her job was safe, only to then flagrantly go back on its word.
As such, Marie filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission against WWE claiming wrongful termination and eventually settled with her former employers towards the tail end of 2007.
Unlike many others to feature on this list, and to the surprise of absolutely nobody, Marie’s shown no signs of a possible return to WWE and in fairness, there’s little wonder why.
