10 Crazy Wrestling Angles That Shouldn't Have Worked (But Did)
6. The New World Order
Eric Bischoff was at least, in part, responsible for much of the success of WCW over the then-WWF during the Monday Night Wars, especially one that basically changed the wrestling world upside down, and skyrocketed WCW to ratings supremacy.
The argument for this particular entry on whether or not the New World Order is here to basically take over WCW angle should or shouldn’t have worked could be made from either point of view, however, the fact that WCW was able to pull off the biggest heel turn in history, and not have the entire pro wrestling universe turn their back on them, but instead had them glued to their TV is to see what would happen next, slowly but surely stealing away WWF’s audience with such a captivating storyline.
It didn’t help that the then WWF was in a, shall we say, less than stellar time period in terms of both athletic talent and creative direction.
As Vince McMahon would say, Bischoff and Co. made a “calculated risk,”.
Fortunately for Bischoff and Co., the truth is, as far as the Pro-Wrestling industry is concerned, and as the cover of Bischoff’s autobiography will tell you: Controversy Creates Cash.
