10 Criminally Underrated Wresting Matches

7. The Rock vs Triple H - Ladder Match For IC Title - SummerSlam 1998

This midcard IC title match would pale in significance due to the accomplishments these two would go on to, but its importance to their respective careers cannot be ignored. It was a groundbreaking moment for the pair. Rocky, who took over as the leader of the Nation of Domination a few months earlier, had developed into a cocky, brash heel with the ability to produce a series of memorable one liners. HHH on the other hand, had taken control of D-Generation X and was one of the company's leading faces. To say that Triple H and The Rock were familiar with one another by the time their rivalry intensified around the middle of 1998 would be an understatement. The pair had endured numerous encounters with the highlight coming in a long and hard fought draw for the Intercontinental Championship. At Madison Square Garden however, the pair took it to another level in a ladder match for the IC strap and fully deserved the standing ovation the 20,000 fans in attendance gave them. Despite a knee injury and eyes full of powder, HHH came out on top in a match that went over 30 minutes. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4fmgh_triple-h-vs-the-rock-ic-title-ladde_sport When you think of ladders your mind immediately goes to the TLC exploits of the early naughties, but after you see the sheer brutality and desire on show here, this match might take over.
