This midcard IC title match would pale in significance due to the accomplishments these two would go on to, but its importance to their respective careers cannot be ignored. It was a groundbreaking moment for the pair. Rocky, who took over as the leader of the Nation of Domination a few months earlier, had developed into a cocky, brash heel with the ability to produce a series of memorable one liners. HHH on the other hand, had taken control of D-Generation X and was one of the company's leading faces. To say that Triple H and The Rock were familiar with one another by the time their rivalry intensified around the middle of 1998 would be an understatement.
