4. The Marriage Of Hunter And Stephanie

Imagine how vastly different the wrestling world would be right now if Test and Stephanie McMahon had legitimately fallen in love during their angle together.

In November of 1999, the boss' daughter and Test were getting ready to tie the knot after dating for a few months onscreen. Then, as part of the storyline, Triple H kidnapped her, drugged her, married her and had his way with her. Yikes. Later on, they revealed it was all a ruse to get back at her dad. This set off the biggest angle in the company for months to come. It also solidified Hunter as a true main event player.

WWE scripted Steph and Hunter's characters to fall in love - they just didn't expect that chemistry to carry over into real life. In fact, Vince told Steph at one point that he didn't want her dating wrestlers (insert Randy Savage jokes here if you must). At the time, Triple H was dating Chyna in real life, but being so close to Steph for so long changed things. Their ridiculous (though entertaining and highly successful) storyline together shaped the future of the entire industry.

Without the power couple falling in love and marrying it's...well...at least quite doubtful that Triple H would have held the World Title so many times. Even if he did, there's no way he would have shifted into such a high-profile management position and eventually taking an entire developmental brand to run the way he saw fit. Really, it's hard to imagine how anything in the business would have played out afterwards.

Love is a funny thing.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
