10 Crippling Times WWE Worked Themselves Into A Shoot

2. Diss The Diva

The Divas Search of 2004 was a terrible way to spend one's summer. It actively encouraged people to go outside. The contest consisted of a bunch of attractive women who were not trained in wrestling competing to become wrestlers. What could possibly go wrong?

The women took part in a bunch of silly skits every week that usually revolved in them not wearing much clothing. Fans would vote on which ones they'd like the best and the loser would be eliminated. When there were only five left, they appeared on Raw (in bikinis, of course) and were given a live mic to tear down each other. Unscripted. It was horrifying.

The segment started out with Maria Kanellis getting eliminated, even though she ended up being the most successful of the group. When she found out, she flipped off Carmella...who was kind of the Eva Marie of her day. So when the women were given a chance to say what was on their mind, they all focused on her.

The first competitor up, Joy Giovanni, said Carmella "talks a lot of s**t and has "a gap so wide you can drive a truck right through there." Next up, Amy Weber gave two of her opponents five seconds a piece of her attention and devoted 20 to Carmella. She started by calling her a "whore" and that she didn't know "s**t" about wrestling" and that having a "c**k in her mouth has nothing to do with wrestling." MAKE IT STOP!

Carmella was up next. While she tore down Joy and Amy, she was actually nice to Christy and said she hoped she won if she didn't. That was very pleasant of her. In return, Christy called her a "c*m-burping gutter sl*t."

I think it's safe to say we'll never hear that last line again on WWE TV.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
