9. Roman Reigns

Though the match was awesome, this writer was somewhat disappointed when Kevin Owens was announced to be competing for the Universal Championship at the Royal Rumble instead of Adam Pearce. Not because of an assumption Pearce was going to put on some technical masterpiece along the lines of Steamboat vs Savage, but because he was going up against Roman Reigns, who seems incapable of telling a bad story at the moment.

Despite all the fan ire he drew, we've all known for a long time now that Reigns is a phenomenal in-ring worker who almost always puts on one of the top three matches of any card he is on. However, what we hadn't realised was that Reigns was capable of being one of the best heels in wrestling. Since returning in August last year, Reigns has acted as Smackdown's dictator, relentlessly stomping out those who stand in his way while subtly hiding from any true threat.

Crucial to Reigns' appeal as a main-event heel is the fact that he is easily the biggest full-time star in WWE right now. Fans buy into Reigns as a dominant heel because they know that he should be there. It's why heels many heels in WWE fail to garner any real heat, as fans don't buy them as a credible threat. That is what makes Reigns' current run so special and what makes him such a prized possession for WWE.
