Has the culture in WWE changed now that Vince McMahon - at least for now - is not all the way back in charge?

The old imagine of a ruthless, unconscionable machine has faded. Morale is higher than it has been in years and years, according to multiple recent reports. Business is up to a hugely impressive extent. Certain wrestlers are clearly given more control over their direction. And while this being a great, heartwarming development is wildly overstated, Michael Cole sounds less like he is being forced to say the word "would" over and over again with a gun pressed against his back.

Still, if a wrestler develops a reputation for being a heat-drawing nuisance, this "new" version of WWE will still bury them onscreen. Cole's new nickname for Top Dolla is 'Flop Dolla', and the man is getting humiliated in squash losses because, at its rotten core, WWE remains a mean-spirited organisation. That is putting it mildly.

WWE is almost involuntarily callous, from the outside looking in.

Speaking with SiriusXM, former commentator Jimmy Smith revealed last year that, ahead of Extreme Rules, he tried to clear a line with Triple H, who told him to give it to Michael Cole.

Smith guessed that his time was up, and it was: he got the call that he was being let go around 48 hours later.
