10 Deluded Wrestling Shoot Interview Revelations That Will Melt Your Brain
1. Bruce Prichard: Company Man, Part II
Something To Wrestle is a joy. The podcast has provided countless belly laughs, from Vince McMahon's supposed description of Jacqueline's breasts to Bob Holly's brilliantly bone-headed rationale behind a World Title push, but it's an uneven listen. Prichard routinely lauds putrid Attitude Era undercard attractions ("And you know what was so good about it? It told a story") and excuses all manner of ugly WWE bullsh*t with fantastical revisions of Vince McMahon's track record.
For instance, did you know that the Muhammad Hassan character wasn't conceived in order to prey on America's growing anxiety and hatred of Arab-Americans, post-9/11?
"We always went with trying to mirror society," Prichard explained of the Hassan pitch. Hassan debuted on the December 13, 2004 RAW, a night removed from a pay-per-view, Armageddon, on which Kurt Angle tapped out Santa Claus. According to Prichard, Vince was troubled by the plight of Arab-Americans. "Godd*mn," and this is Prichard's recollection, not satire, "they're Americans! Just because their ancestors came from Saudi Arabia, or their ancestors came from Iraq, why are they treated differently?"
Probably because wrestling promoters and TV executives portray them as f*cking terrorists?
