10 Deluded Wrestling Shoot Interview Revelations That Will Melt Your Brain
9. Vampiro Takes A Bite Out Of Sting
Vampiro was something of a sensation in Mexico early in his career; his smash success was driven mostly through a cool, alternative look patterned after The Cure's Robert Smith. Never a great in-ring worker, the magnetic Vampiro nonetheless flourished in a boom period, drawing a younger audience to CMLL. Cynically, this flash-in-the-pan experience likely shaped a career of delusion that alienated many stateside.
Nowadays, Vampiro can be seen refusing to enter the ring unless his "f*cking" music plays first - but back in the year 2000, he achieved a certain level of fame through a programme with Sting in WCW.
Now, Sting is one of pro wrestling's genuine nice guys. He refused a WWF payday back in the 1990s out of loyalty to WCW, the schedule working with which allowed him to spend more time with his family, and in part refused a WWE payday due to concerns over the company's amoral creative. He thought nothing of jobbing in WWE when he eventually did sign with Vince, and is generally considered by many of his peers a stand-up chap who commands a rafter-high level of respect.
This is a sentiment not shared by Vamp, who, on YouShoot, accused Sting of being "hot" at his face paint gimmick, sabotaging their infamously bad Human Torch match, as if it needed sabotaging, of "sucking", and of being "jealous".
Vampiro also claims that two Guatemalan spirits follow him as a result of an unfinished voodoo ritual, so perhaps he's just a pathological liar.
