We are officially into the ‘how can they possibly go this low’ category now. It’s one thing to make offensive gestures with ethnic, gender or real life implications. But why do it towards someone who has passed away? Is it really worth it just for making the crowd boo the heel a little more? This wasn’t the first time it happened, but it certainly didn’t make it any less uncomfortable to watch.

At WrestleMania 29, the Undertaker put his streak on the line against the heel CM Punk. The Straightedge Saviour had already been denied his well-earned 'Mania main event when forced to drop the WWE title to the Rock. Instead, Punk was redirected to a feud with the Deadman. The match was described by many as The Undertaker’s last good WrestleMania outing and easily the match of the night.

However the lead-up to the bout, was less than desirable. The feud coincided with the death of WWE legend and The Undertaker’s long-time manager and friend, Paul Bearer. Because this is WWE, his death naturally became the centrepiece of the Punk-'Taker rivalry. Punk and Heyman would constantly mock Bearer’s death and at one point even stole the urn which in kayfabe contained Bearer’s ashes, pouring its contents all over the Phenom after having ambushed him.

Once more, this was CM Punk vs. The Undertaker, two of the biggest names in the world. There were a million different narratives to tell that would have made this interesting and personal. Even Bearer’s family, after having originally greenlit the whole thing, later expressed their disappointment with how it was handled.
