10 Dream Wrestling Matches Fans Just Missed Out On
2. Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar
The match graphic for Steve Austin vs. Brock Lesnar in a 2002 King Of The Ring qualifier has become stuff of legend in the wrestling business, mainly because the collision would never actually take place. Utterly baffled by the idea of having him face Lesnar in a throwaway TV match, Austin threw his toys out of the proverbial pram, leaving WWE and falling out with Vince McMahon in the process. Austin has remarked since that it was nothing personal against Lesnar, but he just didn't agree with the creative team's decision to have him lose a random match on Raw to the man the company were hoping would push them forward for years to come. Ideally, Austin wanted a lengthy rivalry with Brock, and insists he would then have had no problem putting him over. Another chance would never come for the match, and that one opportunity to see Steve Austin face Brock Lesnar disappeared when Austin decided to walk out and go home. Lesnar would go from strength-to-strength in the promotion regardless, but what a match it could have been.
