Believe it or not, these two men never got the chance to cross paths during Goldbergs brief WWE tenure in 2003-2004. Cena was still on the rise, and didnt quite stand as tall as he is today, while Word Life and Basic Thuganomics were still a thing. Now, and shortly after Goldberg left, Cena has been the face of the WWE for just over the past decade. Today, Goldberg is 48-years-old and visibly still in tremendous shape. However, given that the former face of WCW isnt renowned for his wrestling ability, this match wouldnt have worked with a younger John Cena. The Cena of today however, possesses the ability to turn a standoff with a brawler into a watchable and flowing wrestling match. For the past couple of years, weve been witness to the expansion of Cenas move arsenal. His ability to tell a story in the ring is much more evident than ever before (see: Kevin Owens, U.S. Open Challenge matchups, and Seth Rollins). John Cena is at the top of his game. It would sure be a sight for a fully-developed John Cena to go against a trendsetter of the Monday Night Wars, who also has cult-like following of his own, in a battle of two wrestling titans. Plus, judging by how Cena has been received lately, a Goldberg spear would be sure to satisfy close to 20,000 people in attendance who have been singing melodies of John Cena sucks to his theme music.
