10 DUMB WWE Stories (We Didn't Want To Admit Were GENIUS!)

5. Custody Of Dominik Mysterio

Two wrestlers fighting for legal custody of a child on pay-per-view is sensationalistic soap opera "sports entertainment" in a nutshell. It's the kind of thing that made WWE tick throughout the late-1990s and into the early-2000s. Vince McMahon bloody loved laying it on thick with this sort of drama, and it was very silly.

Very effective too, though.

Perhaps time has been kind to Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio at SummerSlam 2005 because of Dominik's own WWE career, but the story was actually rather thought-provoking. In storyline, Rey and his wife had gone to good pal Eddie to help them conceive. Guerrero did so, but then used that against the family later on.

It was up in the air whether or not little Dom was actually Eddie's boy after all. Later, it'd be revealed that he was definitely Rey's son, and that Guerrero was simply a wicked, spiteful and toxic force who tortured the Mysterios despite claiming to be a well-meaning friend.

Whether you loved this or hated it in '05, it's still a talking point today. That's got to count for something.
