It was touched upon in the previous entry, but in 2010, WWE decided to turn lead announcer Michael Cole heel. Forget Jillian Hall's singing, good guy Rocky Maivia, or even Hulk Hogan at his Hulk Hogan-est -- Michael Cole as a heel was the single most annoying development in WWE history. It started with Cole badmouthing Daniel Bryan on the first season of NXT, but soon, the quick-witted, sardonic announcer was unleashing his silver tongue all across the developmental show. Apparently, Vince McMahon liked it so much that he wanted it brought to Raw, and soon Cole was an out-and-out heel -- a turn that was cemented when he helped The Miz defeat Jerry Lawler in a WWE Championship Ladder Match. The feud between Cole and Lawler continued until they faced off at WrestleMania XXVII. The contest, which was refereed by Stone Cold Steve Austin, was a complete farce. Lawler beat on Cole for what seemed like hours, then finally made the announcer submit. The Anonymous GM, though (synergy!), overturned the decision, and Cole won by DQ. Through the entire program, it should be mentioned, Cole was still the lead announcer on Raw, and his juvenile antics made the show nearly unwatchable. It wasn't over there, though. Cole continued to run afoul of Lawler, Jim Ross, John Cena, and everyone else with any sense of decorum. He shifted his allegiance from Miz to new GM John Laurinaitis. Cena beat Cole in a no holds barred match on Raw in 2012, but he was back the next week like nothing had happened. It was only when Jerry Lawler suffered an on-air heart attack -- and Cole was revealed to be a caring friend of "The King" -- that the character was phased out. Though it happened under the worst circumstances, Raw could finally be un-muted.
