10 Dumbest Wrestling Controversies That Went Too Far
2. Top Dolla Vs. AEW
Nobody told Top Dolla when and when not to open his mouth.
A layered saga of a stupid-as-sh*t controversy, it all began when Dolla questioned the authenticity of the sneakers worn on AEW television. As so often happens, his delusion was egged on by the tribalistic stans in the nth chapter of the AEW Vs. WWE war. When it became Discourse, the Bucks updated their bio to read "Spent more on sneakers in September than the entire NXT roster did," in response to which Dolla released a diss track. He wasn't anybody, and when Sammy Guevara was asked on his vlog when Top Dolla might sign with AEW, he thrashed home the assist with a curt, deadpan "Never".
The irony being, of course, that those fans would have turned on Top Dolla the very second that he joined a promotion that wanted nothing to do with him following his release. What a bitter lesson to learn.
The issue seemed dead. A man lost his job, and some other bullsh*t became a talking point - but then, when his former Hit Row stablemate Shane Strickland announced that he was recording a podcast with Guevara, it incensed Dolla so much that he threatened to drop by the studio and beat him up.
All because he had it in his head that Matt Jackson is a disgrace to "sneaker culture" who wears ASICS trainers.
