10 Early Predictions For WWE SummerSlam 2016

5. John Cena Vs. AJ Styles

John Cena pinned AJ Styles as clean as a whistle at Battleground, securing victory in their six-man tag match, and tying them up at one pinfall a-piece in their series.

The stage is perfectly set for a rubber match. Styles’ victory at Money in the Bank was tainted by The Club’s interference, and while Cena technically defeated AJ last night, it was in a tag team match. There’s a big asterisk beside both victories, the beef is far from settled, and logic dictates that WWE will now pit them against each other at SummerSlam.

With The Club and Enzo & Big Cass moved to SmackDown, Styles and Cena can finally engage each other face to face, without any distractions. History suggests that the end result will be a clean John Cena victory (see also: Rusev, Bray Wyatt, and countless others) which is some cause for concern, but they’re two of the best “big match” performers in the company today. If this match is anywhere near as good as their first, it’ll be one of the matches of the night.

Despite Cena’s track record, there’s a lot of evidence to suggest he’s finally on the down-swing in WWE. He was picked a meagre fifth overall in the WWE Draft, and was recently pulled from all non-televised WWE Live Events in the United States. Is Super Cena finally relinquishing his iron grip on the WWE main event scene? We’ll find-out at SummerSlam.
