10 Early Reasons To Be Worried About WWE Royal Rumble 2023

2. Roman Reigns Prematurely Drops The Championships

Would they?

Would they really?

WWE has, for the last several years, been dominated by Roman Reigns at the helm of the operation. Whether as a detested babyface or as his career-defining ‘Head of the Table’ persona, Reigns has been heavily involved in the main event scene of WWE since 2014. He quite literally is the face of the sports entertainment giant.

So why would WWE, under the creative direction of Triple H, dethrone Reigns of the Undisputed Universal Championship ahead of what could be the biggest WrestleMania in many, many years?

It’d be incredibly foolish, idiotic almost, of them to do so - but not the first. WWE has made a handful of attempts to change the trajectory of WrestleMania between the Royal Rumble and ‘Mania itself, whether that’s meant the Royal Rumble victor losing their obligated championship opportunity - such as Vince McMahon in 1999 - or by having the Rumble winner ‘cash in’ their title match ahead of the grand stage of WrestleMania; see John Cena in 2008.

Nothing compares to the possibility of anyone other than Roman Reigns entering WrestleMania 39 as the defending Undisputed Universal Championship, however. It’s impossible to even think of.

If WWE does decide to make the bold decision, then who takes his spot? It’s too complicated for the company to even consider right now, let alone at WrestleMania.
