10 Early WWE Predictions For 2017
2. Roman Reigns Headlines WrestleMania
If recent reports are to be believed, Roman Reigns and Kevin Owens will engage in a champion vs. champion bout at Roadblock, Raw’s next brand-specific PPV. As if further proof was needed, this hammers home the notion that Reigns is still “the guy,” and that his Wellness Policy violation earlier in the year has done nothing to stifle his momentum.
Though he’s been “relegated” to the United States Title division, Reigns is still Raw’s centerpiece. He has regularly closed-out the shows since returning from suspension, and while the immediate fallout saw him eat a couple of clean pinfall loses, Reigns is still booked like Superman. He’s going nowhere, and Roadblock’s main event confirms it.
Knowing this, there’s an extremely high possibility that Reigns will headline his third consecutive WrestleMania. Regardless of whether or not he’s holding the Universal Championship by that point, it’d be risky to bet against anyone other than him headlining WWE’s flagship PPV next year, and anything else should be considered a huge surprise.
WWE have shown no signs of abandoning the Reigns project. They’re going to continue pushing him as the top babyface regardless of how the fans feel, and it’ll continue working to their detriment.
