10 Endings That Screwed Great WWE Storylines (And What Should Have Happened)

7. The Nexus Invasion

What Happened: There have been several "invasions" in wrestling over the years, but none were as shocking as when The Nexus rookies ran into the WWE ring on 7 June 2010. Interrupting Raw's main event of CM Punk vs. John Cena, the newcomers attacked not only Cena and Punk, but also ringside crew such as Jerry Lawler, Matt Striker, Mark Yeaton, and Justin Roberts. The ring itself was torn apart, commentary tables and chairs were overturned, and at one point Daniel Bryan choked out Roberts with his own tie before spitting on Cena. It was uncharacteristically intense television for the PG Era.

How It Ended: At SummerSlam that same year, 'Team WWE' battled 'Team Nexus', which climaxed with Cena defeating Wade Barrett clean in the middle of the ring and sending Nexus packing. On an episode of "Talk is Jericho", Cena's teammates Edge and Jericho lamented that Cena went against their advice by pinning Barrett, as The Nexus immediately lost a ton of steam. The group were then plagued with injuries, went through several variations (at one point led by CM Punk), eventually becoming less and less threatening and dissolving just a year later.

How It Should've Ended: This was one of WWE's most exciting angles in years, and we were seeing things we'd never seen before. Nobody had torn up the ringside area the way Nexus did, and who can forget the way they circled the WWE Legends like sharks, picking off the older timers one at a time? There is no reason at all that Barrett couldn't have gone over Cena at SummerSlam and continued the Nexus revolution against the WWE establishment. Unfortunately, the combination of the squash and the injuries that followed meant that the original group fizzled out and were soon forgotten.
