10 Endings That Screwed Great WWE Storylines (And What Should Have Happened)

2. Sting Vs. The Authority

What Happened: Sting made his unforgettable WWE debut at the 2014 Survivor Series, evening the odds against The Authority, and helping Dolph Ziggler score a win over Seth Rollins in the main event. Sting then called out Triple H and Stephanie's corrupt regime, warning them that he had been watching them. As WWE's "Vigilante", he had finally arrived to make things right. It was if a Batman character had come to life within WWE, and Sting and Triple H were on a collision course to WrestleMania 32.

How It Ended: What was established in the build up was not at all carried over into match itself. Suddenly, all the ideals of the heroic Sting looking to bring down the unscrupulous Authority were replaced by a bizarro "WWE vs WCW" grudge match. Michael Cole and JBL repeatedly screamed on commentary about how it was "us against them" and reminded the audience at home that Sting once tried to "put us all out of jobs". The fact that WWE had already won the war fourteen years ago seemed lost on the commentators. The match became an overbooked mess, as members of DX and the nWo interfered, and Sting was eventually cold-cocked with a sledgehammer and pinned in the middle of the ring. If that wasn't bad enough, Triple H then walked over to Sting, shook his hand, and patted him on the back of the head in a fatherly "Good try, kid" gesture. The next night on Raw, Sting thanked Triple H for the opportunity and made it clear that there would be no follow up.

How It Should've Ended: Sometimes you just have to go with the obvious and give the people what they want: Sting should've pinned Triple H in the middle of the ring for a definitive "feel good" WrestleMania moment. There have been many wrestling personalities including Steve Austin, Scott Hall, Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, Roddy Piper, Jim Cornette and countless others who all expressed their dismay at Sting losing in what may be his one and only Mania appearance. This one just made no sense.
