10 Endings That Screwed Great WWE Storylines (And What Should Have Happened)

1. Austin Vs. McMahon

What Happened: Austin vs McMahon was the centerpiece of the entire Attitude Era, and is considered to be one of the greatest feuds in wrestling history. For over three years, week in and week out, 'The Texas Rattlesnake' and 'The Chairman of the Board' waged a bitter war with each other, in a classic retelling of the working man fighting against the corporate machine. By the time WrestleMania X7 arrived in Houston, Texas in 2001, Austin-McMahon had cooled somewhat, and Austin's sights had been set on The Rock. The two beloved babyfaces headed into the main event of Mania to find out who truly was the best.

How It Ended: The match ended in shocking fashion when Mr McMahon came to ringside and ordered the Rattlesnake to basically destroy The Rock with a chair. Austin pinned The Rock after a brutal beating, McMahon entered the ring, and the two mortal enemies shook hands and embraced as the Texas crowd booed.

How It Should've Ended: Let's be clear - in no way, shape or form should the character of "Stone Cold" Steve Austin EVER sold out and joined with Mr McMahon. Some "shocking twists" just don't make any rational sense, and this was one of them. This match should've ended with either Rock or Austin getting the clean win, and then a post-match handshake/embrace/beer bash deal to send the crowd home happy. The Houston crowd was split down the middle for each wrestler, so whether the hometown hero won, or Austin passed the torch to the Rock, I don't think there would've been a bad outcome here. McMahon's interference would backfire as both wrestlers would take turns hitting Vince with finishers and beers and the heroes close out the show in celebration. Do you have any of your own alternative outcomes for these storylines? Or did you actually like the choices that WWE made? What other great stories had disappointing finishes? Sound off below and let's debate!
