10 Epic Moments From WWE In MSG

3. WrestleMania I (1985)

The first WrestleMania was a complete gamble by Vince McMahon, a show that featured both the stars of professional wrestling and celebrities from all over the pop culture landscape. Mr. T, Cyndi Lauper, Billy Martin, Liberace and Muhammad Ali helped add credibility to the show while Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant and Roddy Piper attracted the common wrestling fan. With a card that also featured the likes of Tito Santana, Greg Valentine, Ricky Steamboat and John Studd, the company had enough star power to be successful but it remained to be seen if they could convince fans to pack both MSG and movie theaters to watch via closed circuit. They could and WrestleMania I was an unqualified success. The combination of pomp and circumstance, as well as bright stars and interesting rivalries made the show a can't miss one. The aura that existed inside Madison Square Garden made the venue a character all its own, only enhancing the feel of the event as something truly special.
