10 Epic Wrestling Staredowns (That Never Went Anywhere)
3. Steve Austin & Hulk Hogan (2014)
WrestleMania XXX is best remembered for Daniel Bryan’s rise to the top and Brock Lesnar shattering The Undertaker’s Streak, but it started with a huge burst of nostalgia. Hulk Hogan arrived in the arena, hyping the crowd up for the night ahead, and botched the arena’s name in the process, which provoked a series of jokes throughout the night.
Out came Stone Cold Steve Austin to another massive reaction, and after running through his trademark ring entrance, ‘The Rattlesnake’ got right in Hogan’s grill. The two icons stood face to face for the first time ever, with neither wanting to give the other an inch, before Austin broke away from ‘The Hulkster,’ then ribbed him for his Silverdome gaffe.
Though Austin teased “opening up a can of whoop-ass on ‘The Immortal One’,” it soon turned into a show of respect. The two shared a handshake, out came The Rock, and the hype-fest continued.
It looked for a fleeting moment like the confrontation was going to get physical, and given that Austin and Hogan have never wrestled one-on-one, the anticipation was huge. Unfortunately, this is just one of those dream matches that we’re never going to see.
