10 Epic WWE Championship Reigns That Aren't As Long As You Think
5. The Rockers - World Tag Team Championship. Days: 5. Recognised by WWE: 0.
If there’s one thing WWE overlooks more than anything when it rewrites its own history, it’s fans in attendance being able to say, “But I was there that night.”
The record books show that the Rockers never held the Tag Team Championship, but if you were in attendance for the October 30, 1990 taping of WWF The Main Event at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana you’d have seen Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty raising the belts above their heads after beating the Hart Foundation in a two-out-of-three falls match.
The Rockers even defend the belts against Power and Glory at a house show on November 3, 1990 before the decision was made not to air the title change. Rumours persist that Jim Neidhart was leaving the company but re-signed later, coupled with a messy taping which included a snapped ring rope, meant the WWE didn’t want to air the footage.
Decades after pretending it never happened, WWE released footage of the match, while still insisting the change didn’t take place. The weird and wonderful world of wrestling strike again.
