How often has a singles championship been shared by a duo? WWE’s official answer is zero times, yet fans in attendance at a SmackDown taping in Miami, Florida on December 28, 1999 will fondly remember welcoming the millennium with both Y2J and the Eighth Wonder of the World as co-Intercontinental Champions.

How did this all happen? Having passed the belt back and forth over the last month, the two pinned each other at the same time, with a referee in each corner to count both falls. The nearest we’ve ever gotten to an intergender championship was brushed under the rug by WWE when Jericho become undisputed Intercontinental Champion at the Royal Rumble, with the entire situation being quietly removed from the title’s history.

That’s one less reign for these two, but another on the record-breaking list for everybody’s favourite wrestler: Vacant.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
