10 Expectations Vs. Reality For WWE WrestleMania 35

4. Batista Vs. Triple H

Expectation:

It can't go the way we cynically expect it to, can it? Surely?

Batista, blowing out of his arse after...entering and leaving a dressing room at jogging pace on the February 25 RAW, is in no condition to go 25 Trademark Triple H minutes. He wasn't in 2014, and he's 50 years old now. Triple H, coalescing from surgery on his torn pectoral muscle, is also in no condition to go 25 Trademark Triple H minutes.

Besides which, WWE has thus far promoted this thing as a deeply personal blood feud instigated by the callous betrayal of a shared brother. This isn't a time for theatrical stalling and Indian death locks; the physical condition of the performers and the psychology of the storyline demand smoke, mirrors, and full-throttle furniture destruction. A welcome surprise of a 14 minute banger - a shortcut-laden successor to Batista's 'Mania 23 classic with the Undertaker - surely beckons.

Surely.

Reality:

The last time WWE promoted a deeply personal blood feud instigated by the callous betrayal of a shared brother, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose traded holds. Also, Triple H went 27 minutes and 35 seconds with the Undertaker at Super Show-Down in November 2018. He seems to actively enjoy boring us to tears, and he's the shrewdest player in all of wrestling. He knows 'Taker took the blame for that embarrassing critical reception.

He knows that, after Big Dave is puce in the face in New Jersey, he will receive that bit more credit for the events of 2004-5.
