10 Failed Heel Turns Of Popular Wrestlers

2. Rikishi - WWF (2000)

After undergoing several persona changes, by late 1999, Rikishi had finally found his groove in the WWF. As the dancing funkster, the plus size Samoan was a popular part of the mid-card and his teaming with Too Cool was a fun act that got over in a big way.

But alas, the babyface push wouldn't last and, within a year of his run as a beloved dancer, 'The Phat Man' was turned heel in one of the most notorious swerves of the Attitude Era. Rikishi was revealed as the man who ran over Steve Austin, infamously claiming that he "did it for The Rock".

The reveal was a massive anti-climax and did nothing for Rikishi's career long-term. However, it did see him gain a momentary taste of the main event scene - even if that taste was laced with defeat. Rikishi would go on to face Austin in a severely one-sided whooping at No Mercy, before losing to The Rock at Survivor Series.

Rikishi would also have a memorable spot in the six-man Hell in a Cell match at Armageddon, falling backwards off the cage into a conveniently placed truck of "wood chippings". After a forgettable tandem with Haku, Rikishi returned to his babyface ways in mid-2001 and remained that way until his release in 2004.
