10 Fantastic WrestleMania Matches You Totally Forgot

10. Bret Hart vs. Bob Backlund - WrestleMania XI

One of the most perplexing instances of WWE playing fast and loose with its own history, is that Bob Backlund isn€™t treated as a bigger deal than he currently is. After Bruno Sammartino, Bob Backlund is the greatest WWF Champion of all time, having held the title for over two-thousand days and carried the company in the seventies, in between the eras of Sammartino and Hulk Hogan. In many ways, Bret Hart is very similar to Bob Backlund, as an €œundersized€ guy who got over with his technical proficiency within the ring. Like Backlund, Bret Hart shouldered the responsibility of being the top star in between two legendary eras, this time between Hogan and €œStone Cold€ Steve Austin and it took a long time for Bret to get the respect he deserved from WWE. Bret Hart v Bob Backlund is a real dream match between two of the best technical wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of boots, and they actually had a heated rivalry throughout the year heading into WrestleMania. Backlund even briefly won the WWF Championship from Bret Hart, after Bret€™s mother threw in the towel, and it all culminated at WrestleMania XI with an I Quit match, with €œRowdy€ Roddy Piper as guest referee. Seeing these two greats face of at WrestleMania is akin to seeing something like a healthy Bret Hart v Daniel Bryan these days. To see the match centered around submissions and true wrestling ability makes things even better, and it€™s definitely one that all fans of technical wrestling should check out.
