10 Fascinating Backstage Facts From CM Punk's AEW Run
6. Friends And Foes
Fact: CM Punk was more divisive among AEW wrestlers
than the handful who were the most outspoken on both sides.
It’s not news that CM Punk has made enemies and has strong supporters within AEW. Anyone who’s paid even passing attention the past year know of Punk’s strife with the Elite and the unwavering support of FTR’s Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.
But not all wrestlers have sat silently on the sidelines when it comes to their views about the Voice of the Voiceless. Former AEW star Bobby Fish has been pretty outspoken about his dislike of Punk. KENTA has made a cottage industry of calling out Punk over his use of the Japanese star’s Go to Sleep finisher. Even Britt Baker has referenced Punk’s outburst at the All Out press scrum as “heartbreaking… embarrassing… disappointing.”
Even a divisive figure like Punk though has supporters, people who have defended him. Saraya called him “an absolute sweetheart” who has given her a lot of advice through the years. Jade Cargill has spoken about Punk helping her before a match and with confidence in her promos. And Ricky Starks similarly praised Punk for his help, even saying he was a great addition to the locker room.
There surely are plenty of others with strong opinions, but it’s
worth noting that the AEW locker room is not a monolith of opposition.
