What was that about being expendable?

Jim Ross knows a thing or two about that noise. The iconic announcer was WWE's sacrificial lamb following a nightmare-ish WWE 2K14 Q&A event shortly before SummerSlam. JR was hosting the thing, but couldn't stop Ric Flair from hijacking the stage show to ramble on about everything and anything.

Amongst other things, a plastered Flair mentioned how much John Cena could drink, and got emotional about some real-life issues. It was sad to watch, and Vince McMahon demanded answers. More specifically, McMahon wanted to know why Jim hadn't calmed things down and seized control of the panel.

Ross admitted that he'd been drinking too. He wasn't drunk by any means, but that was all Vince needed to hear. He used JR as his very own human punching bag. The announcer was collateral even though the messy video game event wasn't entirely his fault.

Jim announced his "retirement" from WWE the next month, but returned in 2017.
