10 Fascinating Masked 'Mystery' Wrestlers

2. Stagger Lee (Junkyard Dog/Koko B. Ware)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40t8T2arIfQ Before he was a beloved WWE babyface/Hulk Hogan warmup act, the man known as the Junkyard Dog was a megastar in Bill Watts€™ Louisiana territory. Although JYD was supposed to be a lower-card comedy act, his personal charisma kind of got ahead of him and he started selling out the Sam Houston Coliseum as a top babyface. Whoops! He reigned as North American Heavyweight Champion until he lost both the title and his job thanks to the betrayal of his friend Butch Reed, who sided with upstart young heel Ted DiBiase. Reed and DiBiase were subsequently plagued by a masked stranger called Stagger Lee, named after an infamous American folk criminal. Stagger pursued them until JYD was brought back to challenge for his title again. Meanwhile, in Memphis, upstart babyface Koko Ware transformed into nefarious heel, Sweet Brown Sugar. Sugar began teaming with Bobby Eaton under the guidance of Jimmy Hart, until jealousy ripped the team apart and Sugar was forced out of Memphis. By this point, you know the drill: Stagger Lee showed up, repeatedly punked out Sugar€™s foes, and then excused himself when the loser leaves town stipulation expired. Well, not so much. In this case, Ware was so over as Stagger Lee that Eaton turned face to team with him again! When the mask finally came off, it was so Koko could do a goofy Michael Jackson gimmick with Norvell Austin.
