Charlotte Flair has shared a complex relationship with her Father on screen over the years, with the two temporarily working together in a wrestler/manager capacity before 'The Queen' kicked 'The Nature Boy' to the curb in 2016. He later sided with Sasha Banks as part of an ongoing programme between the Horsewomen, and Ric's gradual drop in appearances ever since has diminished the need for them to appear together.

This was made worse by a real lawsuit filed by Flair in 2018 against WWE relating directly to Flair's big feud at the time. 'Slick Ric' elected to file a suit over Charlotte's main rival Becky Lynch referring to herself as 'The Man'; something he admitted made Charlotte "mad". Speaking to TMZ sports, he said;

"I told Hunter, ‘Hunter, I’m going to file.’ I mean, the reason they don’t have [the trademark], it’s my understanding that it’s because it’s too close to mine. So okay, let’s say, I’ve been saying ‘To be the man,’ which I have trademarked, I wrote a book ‘To Be The Man’… I told Hunter, ‘Hey, if push comes to shove, I’m going to file for it...They stole it last night. It’s funny, my daughter is so mad at me because I filed, not even understanding that it’s not with Becky. I have no beef with Becky."

Nothing ultimately came of it, though later noted in 2022 that he remained annoyed the trademark wasn't passed down to his children after the Lynch's branding went on to be so successful.
