It's hard to reconcile the ideas of "The Ultimate Warrior" and "King of the Ring" somehow meshing, but it happened in rather forgettable fashion in 1996. Warrior's WWE return lacked all of the zeal of his prior runs with the company. While never the most technically-gifted worker, Warrior was capable of having a good match with a world-class opponent. That wasn't evident in his final WWE run.

At King of the Ring, Warrior defeated Jerry Lawler in a match that lasted less than four minutes, owing to Warrior working with an injured shoulder. An already-limited worker was even more compromised by the injury, and 46-year-old Lawler wasn't exactly early-nineties Macho Man Randy Savage in there. Warrior no-sold a piledriver, and won with a series of clotheslines to keep things simple.
