The buzz over both Mick Foley's brush with death and Kane becoming WWE Champion was enough to give a surging Raw is War a hefty victory over WCW Nitro the following evening. When the dust settled after the June 29 head-to-head, Raw (with Austin regaining the belt from Kane) pulled in a 5.36 rating to Nitro's 4.05. The final quarter-hour, with Austin toppling Kane, drew a 5.94 rating.

Two major notes here. One, Raw's three-minute overrun after Nitro went off the air drew a staggering 6.9 rating, with more than five million American households tuning in to see the title switch. Secondly, the 5.36 rating was Raw's highest ever when opposed by Nitro.

As the year wore on, the numbers for WWE would only increase, and the ratings gap would only widen.
