By the time of the 1991 Royal Rumble, Ware had been a fixture on WWE programming for more than four years. For the most part, Ware was an animated, charismatic presence that could hold up his end of a match, but was often used to put others over on their way up.

Ware's loss to The Mountie at the 1991 Royal Rumble was the seventh time Ware had been pinned or made to submit on a WWE pay-per-view, and it would mark his last PPV appearance for almost two years.

After winning dark matches at WrestleMania 7 and SummerSlam 1991, Ware would tread water until forming High Energy with Owen Hart in the spring of 1992. His next pay-per-view match wouldn't come until Survivor Series that year, when he and Hart put over The Headshrinkers.
