10 Fascinating WWE Royal Rumble 2003 Facts
8. The Office Immediately Gave Up On Steiner Following The Match
As one might expect, when it came to handing out blame for the disastrous match at the Royal Rumble, it was Steiner, not Triple H, who took the brunt of it. The two had a rematch at No Way Out the following month, with less overhead suplexes, and that was it for Steiner in the World title scene.
According to Lance Storm, who began working house show matches with Steiner shortly after No Way Out, veteran agent Jack Lanza said to him that the office was through trying to push Steiner. He was told by Lanza to just "get whatever the hell you can out of him" in their match, even if it entailed just working a two or three-minute match. The decision makers clearly no longer had faith in Steiner to be anything worthwhile.
Amazingly, Steiner lasted with WWE into 2004. His last appearance was in the 2004 Rumble match, and wasn't released until August of that year.
