In New Haven, CT, on April 21, 1988, Hulk Hogan went over on Boris Zhukov in a match taped for WWE Superstars. It aired three weeks later on May 14, and would be Hogan's last televised match until SummerSlam. Life was about to get busier for The Hulkster.

On May 5 of that year, Hogan's then-wife Linda gave birth to the couple's first child, Brooke. From there, it was off to the movie set for Hogan, where he would begin filming the Oscar-caliber No Holds Barred, released into the world a year later like cinematic nerve gas.

Hogan resurfaced at TV tapings in July, and would take part in non-televised encounters (most notably a cage match with Andre the Giant at Milwaukee's WrestleFest) before reuniting with Randy Savage in the main event of SummerSlam.
