Critics today lament the lack of "long-term planning" in WWE (whether they're correct or not), and this would be the kind of thing that they glorify. It was easily the best match of an average SummerSlam when Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart won the Tag Team belts from Demolition's Smash and Crush in a dramatic two out of three falls match. The ending sequence alone, which required the presence of Demolition Ax and the Legion of Doom, was truly inspired stuff.

Both Harts learned on June 5, 1990 that they would be regaining the straps at SummerSlam on August 27. That was a special occasion for "The Hitman", whose fourth child Blade was born on that date.

Hours after the arrival of his latest bundle of joy, Hart fielded a phone call from "The Anvil", who told him that Vince gave the word that they'd be getting the belts come SummerSlam.
